Hi my name is Emma, and I'm a creative psychotherapist based on the Wirral, but you don't have to be local if you're looking for online sessions.

You don't need to have anything "wrong" to have therapy, sometimes we feel like we need to earn the right to have help and that's simply not true. That said, if that's where you are, then that's ok too. That you have come to this website to consider therapy or just read profiles, is a big step. I get that this experience might feel strange at first, but two heads are better than one and you never know, it might just work out.

I can offer online, phone-calls, and face-to-face. I hold my face-to-face sessions from Stories Therapy in Bromborough.

I work with people of all ages, from primary school age to adults, and I also have an offer for schools which you can find out more through my website (www.emmactherapy.com).

I am trained in creative methods which means that if you would like to draw, act out or even play a board game to help your process, then we can. I will never force you to work creatively if this is not something you are comfortable with.

I currently work Monday - Friday from 8AM - 5PM but I can also accommodate early mornings.

  • Areas of practice

I have worked with children and adults experiencing a range of issues, including but not limited to:

    - Emotional regulation and understanding emotions

    - Low self-esteem

    - Domestic Violence

    - Parental Separation

    - Childhood Trauma/Abuse

    - Coping with long-term illness

    - Bereavement

    - Refugees/Asylum seekers, experience of displacement

  • Special areas

I have a specialism in working with Autistic children and children with Learning disabilities, which has also helped inform my work with neurodivergent adults too.

  • Accessibility Comments

I believe in neuro-affirmative care and whether you have a diagnosis or not, I will try and accommodate any reasonable adjustments the best that I can. It's so hard to ask for help, and so you can request adjustments at any time, even if we've been seeing each other for months.

Regarding face-to-face appointments at Stories Therapy:

Please feel free to have a look at the Stories website, where there are photos of the space:

    https://storiestherapy.co.uk/

The space is all ground floor and the entrance has double doors. The practice rooms have standard sized doors, but I can confirm whether this will fit your type of wheelchair.

There is a small waiting area if you would like to bring a chaperone with you - the sessions are one-to-one, but they are welcome to wait outside. You will be free to leave at any point during our session if it feels too much.

There are weighted blankets and fidgets available to all clients and there are dimmer lights in every room.

I rent the room from Stories Therapy, but if having the same room each week is important to you, I can arrange this with the provider.

I can provide visual aids, and on request I can provide a summary of what we discussed in session if memory is something that you struggle with.

There is a free car park which is right outside the centre so it is not far to walk. There are toilets and drink making facilities inside.

If there is anything that I haven't mentioned here that you would like to ask about, please feel free to contact me, I'm more than happy to answer any questions before you make up your mind to commit to sessions.

  • Code of ethics

I am a registered member of the BACP, and I follow the BACP Ethical Framework:

    https://www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions/

  • Place of study
    Edge Hill University, Ormskirk
  • Fees statement
I offer a free consultation call up to 60 minutes. Finding a new therapist is really hard and I get that some of us need more time to process things, so please feel free to call with a list of questions and I'll try my best to answer your queries. There's no pressure to commit to a session in this.
