Hello, I'm Graham! Thanks for taking some time to look at my profile. Please do feel free to get in touch with any questions which may arise for you.

Working with clients.

Looking for a therapist is a courageous first step to make. You may be feeling uncertain of what might come next. I have found that common themes clients bring often include: • Feelings of shame and a lack of worthiness • Being very self-critical • Feeling rejected, hurt, and alone • Stuck in relationships that are not fulfilling • Feeling that your life lacks purpose • Traumatic experiences that feel like they define you •

Would it help to have a space to work through these issues and to feel greater clarity in your life? If any of these issues resonate with you then you might benefit from working with myself as your therapist.

I will hold a tender psychological and emotional space in which you will feel supported and safe. Within this protective space, it is my belief that you will feel encouraged to explore your own feelings and emotional process. This process helps you gain clarity and to feel less burdened by the things you are carrying.

Here's a testimonial from one of my clients:

"The kindness and compassion I have experienced in your therapy room has been life changing. The way you have gently handled my emotions and feelings during the last 12 months has helped me to heal, process and learn. The empathy I experience from you during our sessions makes me feel seen and heard, but more importantly, safe. Your warm and caring nature has helped me share things that I have never felt able to share previously."

I am available to meet for an an initial session for us to talk about what you feel you need from therapy, what I offer as a therapist, and to explain what therapy looks like. If we decide to work together, then we can also discuss mutually convenient times, for future sessions.

Working with supervisees:

My intention is to work with supervisees in a way that is warm, sensitive, validating and deeply collaborative. I will hold a process and emotion focused space for you - in which you can explore your own way of being in practise. I feel passionate about supporting practitioners who may feel isolated in their person centred values and philosophy. I am passionate about person centred experiential practice. I support the de-medicalisation of distress and do not label or pathologise human experience.

I offer clinical and reflexive  supervision to therapists, trainees, researchers, and others in relational or emotionally demanding roles.

Supervision with me is not about fixing or judging—it’s a shared space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with your values. It's a place where your therapeutic work, personal responses, and professional challenges can be explored with care and honesty.

I hold space for both the visible and the subtle: what you say, how you feel, and what might be stirring beneath the surface. I often encourage supervisees to turn inwards and pay attention to their emotions and felt-sensing.

Here's a testimonial from one of my supervisees:

"The support I receive from Graham as my supervisor has been life-changing. Graham has helped me, both professionally and personally, to become a better counsellor and to transform my life. I have an increased self-awareness and self-confidence in my abilities as a counsellor/psychotherapist. Graham's warmth, tenderness, presence and deep empathy, means that I always feel safe in our sessions, and I feel understood.  I feel held emotionally and I am able to fully trust Graham - which means that I feel free to share anything. This in turn means that I am more fully available emotionally for my clients and I have a deeper understanding of my own process. It is hard to put into words but I am incredibly grateful to Graham for all of their support"

If you'd like to explore supervision with me, you're welcome to get in touch. I’m happy to offer a short initial call to see if we’re a good fit.

My professional background:

I have been qualified as a Person Centred Experiential practitioner (Diploma in Counselling) since 2000. I currently see individual clients and supervisees, within my own well established private practice, in my purpose built therapy room.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

I also have an MSc in Counselling (from the University of Strathclyde, 2012) and am in the final stages of completing my PhD (at the University of Nottingham). My doctoral thesis explores what it means to be 'person centred', what this looks like in practice, and how students learn to develop their own way of being person-centred. My research is also focused on what it means to be courageously committed to one's own spiritual core whilst aiming to live in a tender and open-hearted way.

I have facilitated counselling training since 2003, and have supported many hundreds of students within their own personal and professional development journey, over the years. I have taught counselling in both further education colleges and in Universities for over 20 years.  I have extensive experience of managing counselling training, curriculum design and development, academic and pastoral support, and programme leadership.

I have presented my research at a wide range of national and international conferences over the last 15 years. These include presenting at conferences for the following organisations: The Person Centred Association (June 2025); Association for the Development of the Person Centred Approach (2021); The World Association for Person Centered and Experiential Psychotherapy and Counseling (2021, 2018, 2014, 2012, 2010); The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (2018, 2014, 2012, 2011); Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA) (2010).

I believe in compassionate non-violence. I have been vegan for over 30 years as part of this practice. I am interested in buddhist psychology and shamanic healing practices and both of these aspects subtly and profoundly inform my practice and my worldview.

I am dedicated to offering genuinely empathic and compassionate therapy, supervision and training.
