People come to me with all sorts of things. Often it's grief, bereavement, or the end of something: a relationship, a marriage, a job, a way of living that has stopped being available. Often it's stress and burnout, or depression and low mood put down to circumstance too long. Sometimes it's low self-esteem, confidence, or the perfectionism that never lets anything be finished. Relationship and family difficulty is common ground too.

Anxiety often has no obvious object: a dread on waking, a body braced for something it can't name. People frequently describe two problems rather than one, the anxiety itself and the small avoidances built up to keep it at bay, each sensible on the day, which have quietly narrowed the week.

Work brings a lot of people here: redundancy, a role that has changed shape under you, a decision you keep circling, or the tiredness of being the person everyone brings things to.

Some of what people bring has roots in frightening experiences. I work in a trauma-informed way: going at your pace, checking rather than assuming, and treating your own sense of what's safe to look at as the guide.

I see adults of any age, one to one. I don't work with couples or families together in the room.

Sessions are fifty minutes, usually weekly, for as long or short a time as is useful.

I work in three ways: in person in Kingston upon Thames, easily reached from Surbiton, New Malden and Richmond; online across the UK; and walking therapy in Richmond Park, for people who find it easier to talk side by side and outdoors than face to face in a room.

If you're autistic or have ADHD, I don't offer assessment or diagnosis and wouldn't call myself a specialist. What I'd want to get right early is the pace, the amount of silence, and how plainly things are said, and I'd rather ask than assume.

  • Areas of practice

Most people arrive with something they could name if asked, and something underneath it they couldn’t. Both are welcome, and there’s no need to have worked out which is which before we talk.

What follows is an honest account rather than a list of things I claim to fix. Some of it will fit you closely, some not at all, and quite a few people find their situation isn’t described here and it turns out there’s still plenty to work with. If you’re not sure whether what you’re carrying belongs on this page, that’s a good enough reason to get in touch and ask.

People most often come to me with:

    • grief, bereavement and other endings
    • anxiety
    • stress and burnout
    • depression and low mood
    • difficulty in relationships and family life
    • low self-esteem and perfectionism
    • redundancy and changes at work

That isn’t a menu, and it isn’t everything. Counselling isn’t a treatment applied to a category, so the list is only a rough guide to whether we might be a fit. The rest of this page is the fuller account.

  • Code of ethics

I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), membership number 00986637. Registered membership means my training has been checked against BACP’s standards, that I’m bound by their Ethical Framework, and that there’s a complaints route that doesn’t go through me.

I’m in regular supervision, which means I take my work regularly to a more experienced practitioner to think it through, as all practising counsellors should, and I work within the 2026 BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, which covers coaching as well as counselling. I hold professional indemnity insurance and I’m registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office.

  • Fees statement
I offer a small number of concessionary places. I also offer therapeutic coaching at the same rate when booked privately. Payment is by bank transfer after the session or cash a the end of the session. I ask for 48 hours notice for cancellations of sessions, otherwise I do charge for sessions missed,
