Hello my name is Alan, and I'm a person-centred counsellor based just outside Halifax in West Yorkshire.
Person-centred counselling, developed by Carl Rogers, is a humanistic approach to therapy that emphasises the client as the expert in their own life. The core belief is that individuals have an innate tendency toward growth and self-actualisation, and with the right environment, they can resolve their own issues. This approach is non-directive, meaning the counsellor does not lead or give advice, but instead provides a supportive and empathetic space. Clients are empowered to explore their feelings, increase self-awareness, and move toward greater independence and emotional well-being.
Person-centred counselling is widely used in various settings and is known for building strong therapeutic relationships based on trust and respect. At the heart of my practice is a belief in the healing power of being truly heard, accepted, and understood without judgment or agenda. This belief led me to train in person-centred counselling, an approach that honours each person’s unique experience and inner potential. I now run my private practice in Greetland, West Yorkshire, where I offer a warm, safe, and confidential space for my clients to explore whatever they’re facing. Whether they're struggling with anxiety, grief, loss, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, or simply feeling overwhelmed or stuck, I am here to support them with empathy, honesty, and care.
As a person-centred counsellor, I won’t give advice or try to ‘fix’ things — instead, I offer a therapeutic relationship built on trust and authenticity. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and that real change happens when you are supported to connect with your own values, feelings, and direction. I consider it a privilege to walk alongside my clients on their personal journey, and I’m deeply committed to creating a space where you feel truly seen, heard, and empowered to grow.
