Welcome! I am Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist with twenty-five years of experience of working with diverse issues in the NHS, universities, schools, private practice and volunteer agencies.

I also offer training - Teaching specialisms include Person-Centred Theory, Developing Self-awareness, Personal and Professional Development, Working at Relational Depth and offering CBT within a Person-Centred Practice.

How I work as a therapist:

Welcome! I am Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist with twenty-five years of experience of working with diverse issues in the NHS, universities, schools, private practice and volunteer agencies.

People who have come to me for counselling have had many different experiences.

  • You may feel angry, scared, sad, depressed, anxious, stressed or lonely.
  • You may be grieving, have a lack of confidence, a difficult decision to make, difficulty sleeping, concerns about sex or experience of abuse.
  • Your problems may be with relationships, family, work or school.
  • You may be feeling that life has taken the wrong turning and at a loss as to which direction to go.
  • You may be feeling unseen and unheard.

When you come to me you can talk about and work with your individual needs. I can help you

  • Understand difficult emotions
  • Better accept and understand yourself
  • Make sense of your circumstances
  • Work out your own options
  • Move on better equipped to cope with the future

I offer you time and a confidential space where you can feel safe talking to someone who listens to your point of view, who accepts who you are, who doesn’t tell you what to do and who will not discriminate against you.

I will listen deeply, though not be shy to offer thoughts that occur to me along the way.

I liken counselling to being on a journey.  Perhaps you are lost, or don’t like the road you have been on. Maybe you wonder what other roads are out there. It might be that the ride has been very bumpy or traumatic even. Counselling offers you a chance to stop, see how you are feeling and what you might need.  If I see something on the map, I might point it out to you if I think it could be helpful – but very much for you to take or leave!

I care very deeply about Person-Centred theory and practice, and endeavour always to work with the person infront of me in a relational way, rather than to be problem focussed or to hold expertise over people.

How I work as a Person-Centred Supervisor:

I am a Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist, and a Specialist Supervisor. I have twenty-five years of experience of working with diverse issues in the NHS, universities, schools, private practice and volunteer agencies.

Up until very recently, I have been lecturing on the BSc and MSc programmes in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Plymouth Marjon University.

I have a post-graduate diploma in Person-Centred Supervision and experience of supervising counsellors and professionals working at various organisations such as Counsellors Southwest, Kooth, Plymouth Marjon University, Derriford Hospital Occupational Health. I also supervise counsellors/psychotherapists working in private practice.

I also supervise professionals such as health workers, social workers, mental health occupational therapists, specialist mentors in higher education and addiction support workers.

I see my task as providing you with a relationship in which:

  • You are free to explore your practice and discover what you want to learn from it.
  • You feel safe enough to talk about practice which you feel has not gone well as well as practice that feels to have been good.
  • You can explore and experience your personal self, alongside the development of your professional self (and any tensions you may experience between the two).
  • You experience my empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence.
  • I offer my knowledge and expertise
  • You feel supported with ethical and legal tensions that arise within your work.

As a Person-Centred supervisor, my focus is on you as a person. We will look together at your processes, meaning making and experiences.

I aim to accompany you while you explore your work in an environment of trust, confidentiality, safety and good humour. I believe professional growth, confidence and joy can be fostered from being fully encountered by a supervisor with whom you relate profoundly.

How I work as a trainer:

Teaching specialisms include Person-Centred Theory, Developing Self-awareness, Personal and Professional Development, Working at Relational Depth and offering CBT within a Person-Centred Practice.

I am a Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist. I have twenty-five years of experience of working with diverse issues in

  • The NHS
  • Universities
  • Schools
  • Private Practice
  • Volunteer agencies

Up until very recently I have been lecturing on the degree course in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Plymouth Marjon University. I joined the programme 2018 just as the degree was about to start its first academic year. This meant writing lectures from scratch, creating content on theory, research and practice. I’ve loved the teaching and the relationship with the students and staff, as well as how the teaching has informed my practice and my practice has informed my teaching.

I have a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, and taught in primary schools between 1997 and 2003.

I also have Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (2021) and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)

  • Areas of practice

I offer to work with all people when we can have a good psychological contact - so I will work with you as a whole person and not focus on only what issues you have - rather than list problem areas I acknowledge that we all suffer, experience distress and at times can benefit from being in a protected space in relationship with a professional to work through how to live life and relate to yourself in a more real way.

  • Special areas

Relational Depth, Person-Centred Theory, Eastern and Western Philosphy

  • Accessibility Comments

I'm sorry - there are steps to my therapy room.

  • Professional accreditation

I have been senior accredited with the BACP. I am currently accredited. I need to re-apply for senior accreditation due to SCoPEd, but need to wait until February 2026.

  • Code of ethics

I adhere to and respect the BACP ethical framework.

  • Language(s)
    English and French
