Growing Together: Reflections from the PCA Student Peer Group

The Person Centred Association Student Group continues to grow into a welcoming, supportive space where trainee counsellors can meet, explore challenges, exchange ideas and simply be with one another in a genuine, person-centred way. Our recent meetings have reflected exactly that, open conversations, shared learning, and a sense of connection across different stages of training.

Why We Meet: A Space for Students, By Students

One of the early conversations we had centred around the purpose of the group itself. Should we have set agendas, or allow the meeting to flow naturally? For now, the group felt that an open, flexible format best honours what each person brings on the day. As more voices join us, we can revisit this, but at the heart remains a simple intention:
a peer-support space where PCA student members can talk, reflect and learn together.

Previously, membership was open to pre-qualifying members, though we also recognise the value of including those in post-graduate training, as they too are students navigating their own developing journeys. Sharing across different levels of experience brought richness to the conversations.

Previous converstions have covered:

  • BACP Certificate of Proficiency (COP) - what it is, who needs it, and what the test involves.
  • Different Routes Into Practice
  • SCOPED: What Might It Mean for Us?
  • NHS or Private Practice? Navigating Two Very Different Worlds
  • Accessibility & Creative Ways of Working

Welcoming New Members

If you know anyone on a counselling course who would benefit from peer connection, please do encourage them to join the PCA. Pre-qualifying membership is free, and they can sign up here:
