Episode 1: Welcome to the encounters podcast

What do we mean by encounter? In this introductory episode, we give a flavour of this unique aspect of the person-centred psychological approach, and dive into what it means to fully encounter another person.

Rachael Peacock speaks to Alison Drury (she/her) Chair of the Person-Centred Association.

Rachael writes:  The discussion with Alison really brings to life the idea of encounter as a spontaneous and evolving process. Alison’s reflections on her practice experiences of encounter and trauma were particularly moving. We hope this and rest of the podcast series vividly communicates the experience of being a person-centred therapist in encounter.

If you are interested in exploring ideas around encounter there are many publications by Peter Schmid.  His website provides a library of publications.  Further details about Peter Schmid’s ‘Thou-I’ perspective can be found here. Martin Buber’s book ‘I and Thou’ is widely available.

If you wish to speak to a person-centred therapist regarding any of the topics raised in this podcast, the Person-centred Association has a directory of therapists.
