Volunteer Counsellor - Bristol After Stroke
We are looking for a recently qualified counsellor or a student in their latter stages of training. You will be working within a small team, offering counselling to people who have had a stroke and are coming to terms with what this means. The role involves visiting clients in their own homes and requires a degree of maturity to nativate this. It is also short-term work, generally 6-8 sessions because of our limited resources.
If you're interested in helping people with integrating the shock of a stroke into their self-concept and work out what they need on their recovery journey, then this is the placement for you. You will be meeting people facing anxiety, medical uncertainty, aspects of disability, loss of independence, depression and more. Stroke can affect anyone - the young, the old, the well off and the socially deprived. This placement will give you a profoundly varied experience.
We ask for a minimum commitment of 12 months and, in return, offer you a formal induction, reimbursement of travelling expenses and free on-going supervision with our counselling service lead.

Requirements
Basic Requirements • min 12-month commitment to BAS – extensions by mutual agreement • available during office hours to work with a caseload of 3 clients and attend supervision (monthly for 1-2-1 or fortnightly if in a group) • to have or be working towards level 4 diploma (or higher) in counselling • hold professional membership of BACP, NCS, UKCP or equivalent • practising a person-centred, humanistic or integrative approach-
