Off The Record is a client-centred counselling service, offering 12 session contracts to young people aged 11-24 in the Richmond borough.

For over 30 years, Off the Record has offered a counselling service – it is available to any young person (11-24 years old) who lives, works or studies in the Richmond borough, an area which sees a high level of emotional challenges and a wide range of presenting issues in its young people. We offer 12 sessions of counselling, and the option to return for more.

Counselling young people can be very rewarding and this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience with this client group in a supportive environment. We provide free monthly supervision, regular team meetings and 3-4 training days p.a. The centre is always staffed by the service managers who offer ongoing support. We provide a friendly informal environment, and feedback from our counsellors is very positive.  See https://otrtwickenham.com/volunteer-counselling/ for more information

We currently have 11 vacant counselling slots and are recruiting on an ongoing basis, while there are slots available.
Requirements
Volunteer counsellors will preferably be in the process of completing their 2nd year of a counselling diploma or degree, as a minimum. However, we may consider those at earlier stages of training. Qualified counsellors may also apply. We ask volunteers to provide counselling for 2-3 hours per week and to make a minimum one-year commitment to our service. Counsellors are required to work with our full age-range of age 11-24, or at least with age 11-18. We provide an induction training in working with under 16s, covering the BACP competencies for counselling young people. This enables many adult courses to allow their counsellors to work with young people. There is also an expectation for counsellors to attend 75% of meetings and trainings.
