I would like to introduce myself and tell you a bit about how I became a Person-Centred Counsellor. My first job was a hairdresser, and I loved meeting people and sharing their stories. However, I really wanted to be able to support people to help them in a more effective way, to live their life fuller and free. I was lucky to be referred to a counsellor in the early 2000's, when my marriage broke down, and I found this experience to be life changing. This motivated me to study counselling and give support to other people, like I had received.
I have volunteered with charities, (Samaritans and Cruse) as well as working for organisations to support people who have been experiencing emotional distress, with various aspects of their life.
My main way of relating with a person who needs support, is to listen to what they are telling me, and to gain an understanding of what it is like for them. To build a connection with another person, my thoughts are of caring for this person and seeing them with compassion.
My approach is based on the Person-Centred theory and I have academical skills and further trainings, which aid my way of working, but the main reason behind the theory, is that I believe in the natural process of development and change that counselling brings.

Areas of practice
I began my own private practice in July 2023 after experiencing working for several organisations as a session counsellor. I worked for several charities, both before and after qualifying as a Person-Centred Counsellor.
I began by volunteering with the Samaritans and then supporting bereaved callers with Cruse Scotland. Then, while training, I gained my client hours with a Glasgow charity in Coatbridge, called the LCCC. The Lanarkshire Counselling and CBT organisation allowed some of us to work as Person-Centred counsellors and I carried on working for them, after my training. I then started to work for the Criminal Justice System and gained a lot of knowledge of how early life experiences impact on adult lifes, as well as completing a varied and fasinating amount of personal and professional continued development.
