Content of the Day:

This one day workshop will give course participants the opportunity to explore:

  • What is empathy? and why is this condition important in the counselling relationship?

  • What blocks maybe getting in the way of you offering empathy to your clients?

  • How using a creative way of working can improve your empathy skills?

I will refer to the theory of Carl Rogers and also Liesl Silverstone’s person centred art therapy skills.

This workshop will be experiential and also give you opportunities to practice your empathy skills.


John Bradley

John is a Person Centred Counsellor, Supervisor and Trainer in private practice based at the Ellesmere Centre in Hull.


In 2004, John completed a Diploma in Counselling: Using the Person Centred Approach at the Sherwood Institute, Nottingham.  Between 2005 and 2008, John completed training at PCCS Training, Manchester achieving a Certificate in working with Children and Young people, an Advanced Certificate in Therapeutic Play and a Certificate in Group Facilitation.  In 2008, John achieved his BACP Counsellor Accreditation.  In 2009, John completed a Certificate in Person Centred Supervision at the Norwich Centre.  In 2013, John completed his BACP Supervisor of Individuals Senior Accreditation.


Between 1998 and 2000, John worked for East Riding Council as a Counsellor working with Young People (aged 13 to 25).  Between 2003 and 2103, John worked for Hull City Council as a Counsellor working with Young People (aged 13 to 25).  From 2013 onwards, John has worked as a Counsellor working with Children, Young People and Adults in private practice.

From 2008 onwards, John has worked as a Supervisor of Individuals in Private Practice.

From 2013 onwards, John has worked as Course Facilitator for the Certificate in Therapeutic Work with Children and Young People course based at the Ellesmere Centre, Hull.
